As I was chopping, mincing, sauteing, and stirring, Mister Man's cell phone was abuzz with text messages from our camping compadres who were en route. My favourite two texts were:
"Lost"
which was followed by
"Found"
And JUST as my vodka tomato cream sauce was cooling, who should arrive on nature's doorstep but Miss Annie and Lovely Lara. Before we rolled up our sleeves and dived into the business of making merry, Mister Man cooked a spectacular meal that was inspired by The Great Hot Dog War of 2009. He made Mexican hot dogs.
That is to say, he wrapped thick slices of bacon around wieners and cooked them slowly over hot coals. THEN he ingeniously had us WRAP our hot dogs in whole wheat tortilla shells (almost healthy, I say). The toppings consisted of the usual suspects (ketchup, mustard, relish and mayo) but also included: salsa and guacamole. Oh my. OH MY.
And then, we played a superfun! game of Settlers as the chill descended upon us. But we were warmed by our raucous laughter (not to mention the heat emanating from the demon child Miss Annie). Nothing sums it up better than this series of photos.
And what can I say? Over the course of the weekend, one thing led to another, and before I knew it, we had some of THIS going on.....
Which I, of course, thought was pretty darn cute.
Next up: gourmet meals, pandemics and the arrival of visitors who come bearing wood and HOT APPLE PIE! (and I'm not even kidding).
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
